Talks of the Town Launch

HOUSTON-Spring-Klein—The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce recognizes the unique challenge we have in successfully communicating throughout all corners of our community. The Chamber has some success at reaching the business community but there is no one way to touch all of the people and entities in northwest Harris County. The answer: regularly scheduled sessions where community leaders provide “tell-it-like-it-is” lightning updates and guide citizens and businesses to ways to answer their own questions. The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce is organizing sessions to meet this need called “Talks of the Town”.

“What we hope to achieve is a greater sense of community unity,” explains Barbara Thomason, Chamber president. “We identified that there are roughly four different communities that comprise northwest Harris county and each has its own identity. We want to go with that flow and provide these communities with news and tools they can use to improve their daily lives.”

“For example, it would be helpful for those that live near Champions Drive to know about the road construction timeline in their area before it is in full swing,” says Odalys Sivils, Harris County Pct. 4 Community Assistance Department.

Referring to this map of the region, those who live and/or work in the area, may determine which community they identify with and therefore, which Talks of the Town in which to participate.

The first Talks of the Town takes place on Thursday, May 9, 5:30-6:30 pm in the Cypress Creek Community at the Cypress Creek Christian Church in the Forum. During the days prior to the session, individuals will be able to send questions by email to the Chamber so that answers can be properly prepared. Community leaders invited to provide updates for this initial session are Harris County Pct. 4 Commissioner R. Jack Cagle, Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman, Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Watson and Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Champion. After these leaders provide key updates, the participants will have a chance to ask and hear answers to important questions as time allows. In the subsequent session in the Cypress Creek Community, different community leaders may present.

Those planning to attend the Talks of the Town for the Cypress Creek Community on May 9th are asked to RSVP by going to bit.ly/Talk519 and clicking on the Register button. There is no cost to attend.  Similar events for the Spring, Klein and Northwest Houston communities will be scheduled in the near future. All sessions are guaranteed to start and end on time.
